My Bio

My name is Veronica Valdez and I am a Marriage & Family Therapist Registered Associate. I identify as a Mexican, queer, currently abled, fat, spiritual, cis-woman. Having grown up as the oldest child to a family struggling with substance use, I have first-hand experience of the impact of trauma, and the effects it has had on our family as a whole. These experiences encouraged me to pursue Marriage & Family therapy with a focus on addiction from Lewis and Clark College. I invite and hold space for all ages, races/ethnicities, genders, ability, shape, size, sexual and relational orientations and look forward to working with individuals, couples and families from BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and other historically marginalized communities who have experienced trauma and addiction.

As humans, we are wired for connection. Our desire for community has made it possible for us, as a whole, to survive hundreds of thousands of years and evolve into who we are today. However, sometimes our community and relationships change, which can create distress and stuckness as we navigate these experiences. Through a systemic lens and decolonizing approach, my goal is to make the therapeutic space equitable with the possibility of repairing social injustices. I am passionate about integrating Narrative theory, Internal Family Systems, and SocioEmotional Relational Theory for a broader and culturally-specific understanding of an individual, family and relationship to identify their needs. I will center your personal experiences and identities in order to focus on healthier ways of relating and communicating within your relationships. We will collaborate to create goals, name power dynamics, use strength-based and trauma-informed interventions, and value your resilience to affect change.

Seeking therapeutic help may be a scary and intimidating step to finding relief, growth, or change. With my personal and professional experience, I hope you would allow me to help guide your healing journey so we can achieve a safe and secure landing together. I hope to empower you with tools, psychoeducation, and direct yet empathic feedback to help you reach your best self, for you, your chosen/family and ultimately, your communities.
