Integrating psychotherapy, medication management, body work & mindfulness for an encompassing and empowering approach to healing.
Casey Black, Client Liaison
I’ve come a long way to sit at the desk in the waiting room of ITTC. I grew up just outside of Nashville, and before moving to the Pacific Northwest I spent seven years in Los Angeles and five in New York, with stints in Baton Rouge and Lyon, France. During that time I made a living as a singer-songwriter, a massage therapist, a street busker, a mover, a librarian, and a barista. I also spent a year as a volunteer counselor on a Los Angeles suicide hotline Angeles. In 2010, I received my BA in Creative Writing at Columbia University in New York.
While I still write songs and tour in Europe—Ireland and Germany for the most part—my focus these days is completing my Masters of Social Work at Portland State University, after which I plan to work as a psychotherapist. My interest in the practice began long ago and has since developed into a passion. Specifically, I am excited about the ways in which mindfulness and psychotherapy can be a powerful combination for getting to know one’s self. When I’m not studying, working, or interning (I’ll be at the VA in 2017-18), I take walks with my Great Pyrenees, Pablo, and practice meditation at a Portland zendo.
